4/4, 96 beats a minute, 1 bar to count in.
Write
1 bar of 4/4, 1 part, ready to play
Keep bars full: a longer note takes its time from the notes after it, a shorter one leaves a rest. Turned off, edits change only the note and the bar is marked until it adds up.
Keys for the grid
- Left and right arrows: the previous or next note. Home and End: first and last.
- 1, 2, 4, 8 and 6: whole, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenth. Full stop: dotted.
- R: rest or note. T: tie to the next note. Delete or Backspace: make it a rest. S: split.
- Bells parts: A to G set the letter, up and down arrows move one step, # or + sharp, minus flat, N natural.
- Rhythm parts: up and down arrows move to the bar above or below.
Type Rhythm as textta ti-ti rest | C5/4 D5/8 ...
Bars split by | or a new line. Rhythm words (ta, ti-ti, tika-tika, ta-a, rest) or notes as pitch/length (C5/4, F#4/8, x/8 for no pitch, r/2 for a rest, a full stop for dotted, ~ to tie). The full list is on how it works.

The video runs 0:09: a 3-second title card, 1 bar to count in, then the board at 96 beats a minute. It carries a small credit with the site's address in a corner.

From a rhythm to a play-along
- Write it your way. Tap notes into the grid with the mouse or the keyboard, or type it: ta ti-ti ta rest for rhythms, C5/4 D5/8 for melodies. Every bar shows whether it adds up.
- Play it with the class. A count-in, a click or a soft drum pattern, any tempo from 40 to 200, and a marker that moves over the notes in time with the sound.
- Take it to the lesson. A play-along video for the projector and a colour chart for colour-coded tubes and bells, made in this browser.
The notation it reads, the colour convention and how playback stays in time are on how it works. Ready-made patterns are in the starter library, lesson ideas in the guides, free flashcards, a rhythm grid and a tube chart in the printables, and answers in the FAQ.
